Norm Shirley Norman D. Shirley
Certified Financial Planner™
Founder and President, CWFP
Branch Manager, RJFS
norman.shirley@raymondjames.com

Norm celebrated 28 years in the financial services industry in January 2009. Originally from Meridian, Mississippi, Norm graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in architectural technology in 1973. Immediately after graduation, he moved to Atlanta and began work with a long-established Atlanta architectural firm, as a draftsman and then was promoted to the position of on-site inspector. In 1977, he decided to pursue a different career path in business and accepted a position as an account executive with a large industrial chemical company. After one year and numerous sales awards, Norm was promoted to sales manager (one of the youngest-ever to hold this position). He built a sales team covering several southeastern states over the next three years. This success led him to explore financial planning and investment options so he accepted a position as vice president of sales with a large southeastern nursing home and real estate development and syndication company. In 1981, the company was sold and Norm took the opportunity to start his own business and founded CommonWealth Financial Planners, Inc., a Registered Investment Adviser firm with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Norm obtained his Certified Financial Planner™ designation in 1985 and was admitted to the Registry of Financial Planning Practitioners in 1987. He is a registered principal and a branch manager with broker dealer Raymond James Financial Services. CommonWealth advises its clients on every aspect of their financial affairs.

Norm and his wife Renee recently celebrated 31 years of marriage. They have one son, 17-year-old DJ. Norm and Renee are actively involved with their church and teach Sunday school to 7th and 8th grade girls. He is also a member of the Roswell Historical Society, and in 2005 was recognized by the City of Roswell and the Roswell Historical Society with the award for the preservation and rehabilitation of the 100-year-old office “home” at 1033 Canton Street where CommonWealth Financial Planners, Inc. resides.
