FINANCIAL PLANNING FOR INDIVIDUALS

A big part of our work involves helping clients answer key questions as they plan for their future. Here are some examples of the issues we tackle:

Retirement Planning

  • Do I have enough money to retire?
  • What difference would it make if I work five more years?
  • When should I start taking Social Security?
  • Do I have enough money to gift some to my children?

Tax Planning

  • What investments should be in my taxable account and what should be in my IRA?
  • Should I do a Roth IRA, or convert an existing IRA to a Roth account?
  • What are the most tax-efficient ways to manage my taxable account?

Coordinating Trust and Estate Planning

  • Do I have a taxable estate?
  • I have an estate plan, but what does it take to make it work?
  • How can I structure my accounts to minimize estate taxes?

Investment Planning and Management

  • What are the advantages in giving an advisor discretion to manage my assets?
  • Why would I want fee-based accounts rather than transactional accounts?
  • How is risk managed in my account?

Charitable Giving

  • What are the advantages of gifting appreciated securities?
  • How can I make gifting of appreciated securities easier?
  • What is a Donor Advised Fund?

COMPANY-SPONSORED RETIREMENT PLANS

Company retirement plans are the single most important factor in giving people the long-term financial security they need.  For that reason, we work closely with businesses to set up and manage retirement plans that fit their situation.

Retirement plans are a good example of “one size does not fit all.” Most people are familiar with 401(k) plans and, for many businesses, this may be the best choice. But within the large category of 401(k) plans, companies face a number of choice points, including:

  • Should we make this a Safe Harbor plan?
  • Should we add a Roth Contribution option?
  • Should we offer an employer match?

These are just a few considerations in the basic plan setup. There are also numerous other decisions to be made—such as which mutual funds to offer and how to structure investment and administrative expenses. We’re ready to help businesses work through all of them.
