Virtual Art TourJanine Hoffman, American, born 1963When I tell inquiring people that I am a sports artist, the usual reaction is one of puzzlement. It’s rather funny because to me, what could be more appropriate? The legacy of Greek art, which to this day inspires us, was to give glory in depicting what was most beautiful and perfect in creation; the human form honed by the athlete," wrote Bradenton, FL resident Janine Hoffman in her artist brochure. Pat Ringling Buck wrote for the Sarasota Herald Tribune, "It’s not the process but the subject matter that’s action-filled in the works of sports artist Janine Hoffman, whose specialty is capturing the moves and body language of professional athletes like Michael Jordan." Hoffman uses colored pencils to create her realistic renderings. Hoffman has her B.F.A. degree from Long Island University at C.W. Post. She majored in painting, but did not find her style until she began to use her first love, pencils. Her work has been in exhibited in New York, Florida, Texas and at the 1997 NBA Jamfest in Cleveland. Hoffman has been featured in such publications as Beckett Baseball Monthly, Beckett Basketball Monthly, Nightscape Publications and various independent comics including the self-published Steele Destinies. |
