Virtual Art TourTom Saubert, American, born 1950Born and raised in Missoula, Montana, Tom Saubert received his formal education at the Cleveland Institute of Art in Ohio. After five years learning what he calls the "isms" of art and being trained in graphic design and illustration, Saubert returned to Montana in 1973 to record the history of his native state through his realistic artwork. In order to capture the authenticity of his subject matter, Saubert plans and arranges trips to sites of ancient tribal activities for himself and fellow artists. The artists take all of the trappings of an Indian camp with them on these trips, including: traditional teepees, tethered horses, reconstructed carts, weapons and accoutrements from the artists' collections, and fully costumed models. Saubert has exhibited his work widely, appearing in such publications as Southwest Art magazine, and has won numerous awards, including Best Sculpture at the Western States Art Show in Cody, Wyoming, and Best Drawing at the Stockmen’s Foundation Art Show in Calgary, Canada. He was elected into the prestigious Northwest Rendezvous Group of Artists in 2000. |
