As we enter 2017 facing a world in transition, maybe the ancient Chinese expression, "May You Live in Interesting Times", frames the current investment environment. Yet, if you are patient and take the "long view", clarity comes into focus.

Please take the time to read the current "Investment Insight" form the American Funds, "Navigating a World in Transition", and share your thoughts with me.
Thank you for your business and loyalty.
Navigating a World in Transition

I hope all is well with you as we transition into fall and enter the "Holiday Season".
I have attached another exemplary, "The Long View" titled, "The Changing Face of the Global Consumer" from the American Funds, which is worth your time to read. And as always, please share your thoughts with me as to how this paper, (or for that matter any issue) might impact your situation.

The Changing Face of the Global Consumer

I am amazed at the evolution and dramatic impact of “innovation” that touches our everyday lives! To quote the attached “The Long View” from the American Funds: “The United States’ economy is in the midst of an extraordinary transformation, one that has the power to redefine America’s future.
Across the country, the nation’s resilience in the face of adversity and its entrepreneurial spirit are providing unprecedented opportunities for companies and investors.”. Yet, this innovation is happening globally so that said remember, stocks, mutual funds are more than numbers going up and down, they are real companies making life better for all!

I hope you have all returned from a most joyous Christmas and happy holiday season and “raring to go” in 2016. I have attached the 2016 Outlook from the American Funds, “Seek Bright Spots in Uncertain Markets”, I encourage you to read and I hope you find of value. Yet, for the non-readers here is the “quick version” from the American Funds: 1) High levels of volatility expected to continue as markets adjust to slowing growth in China, lower oil prices and weak industrial activity. 2) While stock prices could fluctuate further, chances of a global recession or a financial crisis are low. 3) Modest expansion in developed economies will partly offset deceleration in China. 4) Equity valuations in Europe are attractive and leave room for potential gains. 5) M & A activity is supportive and there remains many areas of opportunity in financial markets. After reading “Seek Bright Spots in Uncertain Markets”, I would encourage you to call me to discuss as it relates to you individually.
Thank you for your loyalty for which I am most grateful for.

Joseph Schumpeter, the great Austrian-American economist who popularized the term “creative destruction” also known as “Schumpeter’s gale,” which conveys the notion of a “process of industrial mutation that incessantly revolutionizes the economic structure from within, incessantly destroying the old one, incessantly creating a new one”. With this in mind, enjoy the latest Investment Insights from the American Funds, “Changing Channels: Media’s New Direction”, which illustrates and reinforces Schumpeter’s thesis.

I hope you had an enjoyable summer and are rejuvenated! I have attached an interesting piece from the American Funds addressing previous market declines you may find of value. Remember Baron Rothschild’s investment tip, the most opportune time to invest is “when there is blood in the streets”, or for you Psychomachia students, “Patience is a virtue”.
