Since entering the financial services industry in 1993, Richard has served in a variety of steadily advancing leadership roles. Prior to joining Raymond James in 2002, Richard held positions as a financial advisor and then a vice president at Janney Montgomery Scott, and as Vice President of Investments at UBS Paine Webber. Today, as a branch manager at Raymond James Financial Services, he has oversight responsibility for the branch's other financial advisors and support staff. Before entering the financial planning industry, Richard served as a financial and long-range planner for AT&T (formerly Southern New England Telephone Company).

Richard and his team share a goal of providing superior service to their clients by developing long-term relationships based on an in-depth understanding of each client's unique needs and tolerance for risk. For Richard, that means providing his clients with basic financial education, a carefully thought out plan for achieving their long-term financial goals, and an understanding of the need to remain flexible in response to ever-changing market conditions.

Richard is a 1976 graduate of Central Connecticut State University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in biology and chemistry, as well as a 1988 graduate of the University of New Haven with a Master of Business Administration. He has climbed Mount Rainier, trekked through the Andes to Machu Picchu and reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Mount Aconcagua in Argentina, the highest mountain in the world outside of the Himalayas, may be next on his list.

CFP® | Certified Financial Planner |
Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc., owns the certification marks above, which it awards to individuals who successfully complete initial and ongoing certification requirements.

Maria Storm
Financial Advisor
maria.storm@raymondjames.com

Maria joined Raymond James as a new financial advisor in 2005, bringing diverse and valuable experience from the fields of education, business management and marketing. She draws on the insights she gained during her 12 years as a stay-at-home mom and active volunteer in her community to hone her skills as an advisor. Her empathetic listening skills and approachable, collaborative nature allow her to develop meaningful, long-term relationships with her clients. She is adept at explaining even the most challenging financial concepts in easy-to-understand and non-threatening language that instills confidence in her clients.

As she continues to build her practice, Maria has focused her efforts on helping women take responsibility for their own financial futures. For many reasons, from the sense that money is not a ladylike topic to insecurity about understanding complex financial matters and deferring the responsibility for their financial futures to husbands or advisors who have managed family accounts forever, many women have little understanding of how and why their assets are invested. Maria believes that understanding their financial status is important to women, especially since, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 80% to 90% of women will be solely responsible for their finances at some point in their lives. It is her goal to provide these women with the knowledge and self-reliance they need to enjoy a comfortable retirement.

Maria is a 1971 graduate of Wellesley College with a Bachelor of Arts, as well as a 1976 graduate of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she received a Masters in Education. She holds the Series 7 securities and relevant insurance licenses. Maria is the founder and co-chair of the Branford River Project, chair of the Branford Counseling Center Human Services Board, and author of A Resource Guide to Social Services in Branford (1995; revised 2000, 2005 and 2010).

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Maria lives in Branford, Connecticut. She and her husband, Bruce, have an adult son, Christian. In her free time, Maria enjoys keeping her border collie, Jackson, entertained and exercised, swimming laps, and renovating the 1858 New Hampshire farmhouse where she and Bruce plan to retire one day.
