Assistant to the ChairmanEach year, Thomas A. James, chairman and CEO of Raymond James Financial, hires recent MBA graduates to serve as his assistants for a two-year period. The assistants to the chairman work directly for Tom and alongside the senior management of the firm on special projects that impact the ongoing success of the company. In this role, individuals have the opportunity to learn financial services from the top down, from one of the most respected minds in the industry. In the past, the assistants to the chairman have been responsible for a range of projects. These include creating new investment products, strategy development, identifying and developing international opportunities, evaluating potential acquisitions, recommending and implementing improvements to existing lines of business, and leading executive recruiting efforts. This position will continue to evolve over time because the challenges facing the industry, and Raymond James in particular, are in a constant state of change. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, team-oriented and has a demonstrated history of achieving success. While no one background is best suited for this position, Tom seeks exceptional MBAs who have graduated within the past three years.
