Joe Mahoney, a Boston native, has spent his career helping people plan their financial futures. After graduation from St. John’s Seminary College in Boston, he spent a few years as a teacher and social worker.
In 1967 he joined a Boston-based fiduciary company, received his insurance and securities licenses, and specialized in retirement plans. In 1978 he received his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM (CFP) designation and in 1985 received a Diploma in Financial Planning from Boston University.
He established his own broker-dealership and registered investment advisory service in 1979. Constantly looking for better ways to improve the quality of service to his clients, he joined Raymond James Financial Services in 1990.
The most important service that Joe provides is that of listening, listening to what the individual is saying, making sure that the client and Joe have the same understanding of those words. Over the years Joe has been active in professional, civic, and church organizations. Some of them include President of the Boston Chapter of the International Association of Financial Planning, Inc. (IAFP) now the Financial Planning Association (FPA), member of the Tisbury Zoning Board, member of the William Street Historic District, board member of the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of Chelsea Cultural Council. In February 2004, Joe was asked to sit on the board of Chelsea, Revere, and Winthrop Elder Services where he currently serves as a director. He was the recipient of the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Business Award 2006-2007 and, volunteers in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston’s Parish Finance and Business Manager’s Ministry, and serves on local parish and school finance boards. He currently is a director on the Chelsea Chamber of Commerce, an associate of the City of Chelsea Zoning Board of Appeals, co-chair of Cambridge Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors’ Committee and serves as a Member of the Chelsea Community Fund and recently received the 2007 Resident of the Year award from the City of Chelsea.
