Why do I need a financial plan?

Whether you’re a working person, retiree, small business owner or anyone concerned with reaping the benefits of your hard work, careful planning is critical to building a financially secure future. While each person's financial concerns are different, most of us have common goals: achieving financial independence, caring for our families, planning for the future.

At Waller & Wax, we find that most of our clients have the same questions:

  • Will I outlive my money?
  • Am I paying too much in taxes?
  • What kind of retirement lifestyle can I expect?
  • Is now the right time to get into the investment market?
  • What can I do to prepare financially for my child’s or grandchild’s education?
  • How can I ensure that my estate will be handled according to my wishes?
  • Do I need long-term care or life insurance?

Finding answers to these questions can be daunting in today’s complex, constantly changing economic market. Making sound financial decisions – especially those that will shape your financial future – requires knowledgeable, experienced advice and guidance.

Financial planning services from Waller & Wax can help you find the answers you need to start building the future you want.

“We want to continue what we do best: client fiscal check-ups, intergenerational planning, portfolio management, and client service.”

Why choose Waller & Wax Advisors, Inc.?

Our comprehensive approach. Our approach to financial planning integrates not only investments but also tax considerations, estate planning, insurance, lifestyle goals and many other issues. As we work with you, we’ll connect you with the appropriate professionals — or work with your existing legal and tax advisors — as needed to implement all aspects of the plan.

Long-term view. Our firm operates on a broad, long-term view rooted in a conservative investment philosophy. We don’t believe in chasing every new, hot stock or making sweeping changes to your plan every time the market shifts. Our goal is to help you attain a sense of financial security for the future.

Personalized service. No two clients come to us with the same resources, goals, beliefs, values or circumstances, and no single plan or strategy is right for every client. We believe your individualized plan should reflect not only your specific financial considerations but also noneconomic factors — such as family dynamics or retirement dreams — that might affect your financial picture.

How does the financial planning process work?

The first and most important step in the planning process is an opportunity for us to become acquainted with you, and vice versa. We want to understand not only your financial situation, but your values, your beliefs about money, your tolerance for investment risk, your goals, needs and expectations. We'll schedule an initial meeting with you for this purpose and we’ll also advise you about our services and the costs associated with the planning process.

Next, we’ll review information about your current and future financial picture, which may include tax returns, bank statements and other important documents. We’ll also evaluate various retirement, estate, tax and investment strategies in light of your goals and values.

After that, we’ll develop a report tailored to your unique situation. The report will address areas such as:

  • Retirement cash flow analysis
  • Asset allocation
  • Investment recommendations
  • Risk profile
  • Cash flow analysis
  • Educational planning (as appropriate)
  • Estate planning
  • Insurance analysis
  • Tax analysis

We’ll review and discuss this report with you in depth to confirm that it reflects your preferences, and make any necessary revisions.

Finally, we’ll implement and monitor the report. After that, we will meet with you regularly to review the report and discuss any changes you or we might recommend.

What happens once the plan is in place?

Monitoring
We review your account on a regular basis, examining the performance of your investment portfolio and watching for any areas that might need adjustment.

Updates
Normally, we will meet with you every six to nine months for a complete review of your report. At that time you’ll have the opportunity to bring us up to date on any significant events in your life that could affect your future finances. At that time we’ll also:

  • Review your investment holdings
  • Evaluate your portfolio, including asset allocation and risk/reward ratios
  • Evaluate your risk exposure and overall risk management
  • Review cash flow, both present and future
  • Address college planning needs if appropriate
  • Respond to any questions or suggestions you have

Communication
Our clients are encouraged to contact us at any time about their accounts and keep us abreast of any changes in their personal situations, plans or goals. All members of our team welcome contact with clients, and we make every effort to respond in a thorough, timely way.
