Mike Sheehan

Mike Sheehan

John Michael "Mike" Sheehan
April 4, 1937-December 8, 2010

The Little Rock team of Raymond James mourns the loss of our friend and colleague, John Michael Sheehan, who died December 8th, 2010 after a brief illness. Mike's family and friends describe him as a true character, a man who loved and laughed and lived his life to the fullest.

Mike was born in El Dorado, Arkansas on April 4th, 1937, to John "Son" and Elizabeth Sheehan. He graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and was a proud member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.

Mike loved his family, his many friends, his home, and his life in general. If you had the privilege of answering to his endearing term "Hey Kid!" combined with his signature grin, you knew you had arrived.

Sheehan was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Linda James Sheehan. He is survived by his wife, Linda Marlowe Sheehan, his daughter, Kelly Van Pelt (Kirk): his son, Patrick Sheehan, (Liza); his sister, Shirley Young; and his grandchildren, James, Joe, Kaitlyn, Rose, Hannah, John and Hugh, and his stepdaughters, Kelly Marlowe and Jennifer Bradford (Kent).

A celebration of Mike's life will be announced in January. And in true keeping with the Sheehan spirit, it will be an Irish party!

Mike had a soft spot in his heart for all of God's creatures. Late in life he was transformed from a "dog man" to a "cat man" by a little stray cat he named Henry.

Sheehan's stepdaughter Kelly recounts this story: "Henry adopted Mike early on. Even before Mike knew he'd been adopted! But he was still an outside cat until early one morning, when Mike couldn't find him. My phone rang at 4AM. Those calls jolt you to your soul. Is someone hurt? What in the world? But it was Mike. 'Kid', he said, 'I can't find Henry! And I saw a possum in the backyard! They're omnivores! Look it up!'"

Fortunately, Henry showed up again. Both Mike and Kelly were relieved (and Kelly was amused.) "Henry never slept outside again!" she said. He adopted Mike-just one of the many memories that the family cherishes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Kidney Fund, 6119 Executive Boulevard, Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.
