FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 30, 2002

RAYMOND JAMES & ASSOCIATE’S
SCOTT B. SWANSON HONORED AS
OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER

HOUSTON - Scott B. Swanson, vice president of investments with the 5847 San Felipe Road office of Raymond James & Associates, Inc., member New York Stock Exchange/SIPC, has been named Harris County Civic Volunteer by Volunteer Salute 2001 and State Friend of Extension by Epsilon Sigma Phi.

Organized by the office of Harris County Judge, Robert A. Eckels, the Volunteer Salute award honors Swanson’s 25-year commitment to the Texas Cooperative Extension, an agency of Texas A&M University. He most recently played a key role in establishing the Distance Learning Program at the Plane State Jail for women.

Epsilon Sigma Phi, a national honorary fraternity representing professional Extension agents, recognized Swanson as the State Friend of Extension for 2001. The award honors individuals with a long-term commitment to the organization who have provided exceptional service to Texas Extension programs.

“Scott has been instrumental in facilitating contact and cultivating relationships between several agencies, while also obtaining funds for the project,” explains Susan K. Russell, executive director of the Harris County Cooperative Extension. “He sets amazing, yet achievable goals for our organization and then works with our staff to reach those objectives.”

The Texas Cooperative Extension, the Downtown Rotary Club of Houston’s Fresh Start Committee and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice worked together to develop and facilitate the Distance Learning Program, which helps female offenders learn the necessary skills to become productive members of their communities when released from incarceration. The initial phase of the program included 55 women who received 18 hours of training in the areas of family, finance and health. These courses were tele-broadcast from the Harris County office of Texas Cooperative Extension to the Plane State Jail using video conferencing equipment.

With nearly 30 years of financial services and investment experience, he has dedicated his practice to helping individuals, families and business prepare for their futures.
