Over the past four years the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Raymond James have worked to “sack hunger” by stocking Tampa Bay area food banks before the Thanksgiving holiday. Since the program’s inception, Raymond James — in coordination with the Bucs and other corporate sponsors — has collected more than 105 tons of nonperishable and canned food items.
2007 Sack Hunger Campaign
The 2007 holiday season is brighter for local families thanks to the collective efforts of Raymond James Financial and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Glazer Family Foundation. Before Thanksgiving, four Tampa Bay area food banks received more than 6,000 pounds of nonperishable and canned food items thanks to the “Sack Hunger” program led by these community minded-partners. Since the program’s launch four years ago, the Bucs and Raymond James, with support from other corporate sponsors, have built a successful plan of action responsible for gathering a cumulative total over 105 tons of nonperishable and canned food items.
To kick off this year’s Sack Hunger campaign, a special event was held for the public in the West Club Lounge of Raymond James Stadium on October 9. Tampa Bay residents, season ticket holders and Pewter Partners came out to enjoy the Sack Hunger kickoff festivities featuring Buccaneers wide receiver Michael Clayton, guard Davin Joseph and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers cheerleaders.
In keeping with the spirit of the occasion, the price of admission was a call for partygoers to bring at least two nonperishable food items. Representatives from St. Petersburg Free Clinic, Religious Community Services, Metropolitan Ministries and America’s Second Harvest were on hand to talk with guests and answer any questions about the work of their respective organizations.
In addition, Buccaneers fans who attended the November 4 game against the Arizona Cardinals supported the program by bringing nonperishable food items to the stadium.
A special cheer goes out to fans who joined the effort to help Sack Hunger in Tampa Bay.
