One client who came to us for investment guidance had been using a money manager in a large metropolitan area who placed his assets in custom portfolios. The consequence was that the client owned more than 300 holdings in small increments, which resulted in an unsatisfactory level of exposure and fees.

We created a personalized financial plan and determined the appropriate risk level he should assume. We explained that this was different than his risk tolerance – that while he had the tolerance to assume a level of risk, he didn’t need this amount of risk to achieve his goals.

As a result, we were able to lower his equity exposure at an opportune time. Our client has since been grateful for our guidance and continues to be receptive to our recommendations as we pursue his goals for the future.
