Special Needs: Planning for the Future

We often receive questions about future planning for children with disabilities from parents, relatives, and health care providers. If you are the parent or guardian of a child with special needs, you need to educate yourself about the many options available. It is never too early to start planning for your child's future.

How can you ensure that your child receives appropriate therapies and medical treatments? How can you present the nature of your child's disabilities and needs to those who may care for them without "scaring" them away? How can you find appropriate caregivers who will carry out your wishes and respect your child's goals, dreams and life expectations? In this workshop we will address these issues, as well as:

  • What you need to know about living arrangements, wills, trusts, guardianship and other estate planning issues.
  • Trusts, including special needs trusts and how they differ from other types of trusts.
  • Guardianship issues.
  • Advance medical directives.
  • How to create a sound financial plan for your special needs child.

Savvy Social Security Planning: What Baby Boomers Need to Know to Maximize Retirement Income

Baby boomers want to know: Will Social Security be there for us? We've been told for years that the system is "going broke." Is this really true? In this workshop, we will address these questions, and others such as:

How much can you expect to receive?

When should you apply for benefits?

Five ways to maximize your Social Security benefits by knowing the rules and making smart decisions.

Will Social Security be enough to retire on, and if not, how to coordinate your Social Security benefits with the rest of your retirement income plan.

Tax Savings Strategies for Families with Medical Issues

Health Savings Accounts, other tax-favored health plans, and Dependent Care plans.

  • How much can you deduct for long term care premiums and expenses?
  • How to make the nondeductible deductible?
  • What are impairment-related work expenses?
  • What capital expenses for improving your home can be deducted?
  • What medical expenses can you include this year?
