Giving back goes full-throttle
While Raymond James Cares is a year-long community involvement initiative, one month each year is officially designated as Raymond James Cares Month – a period of 31 days when our associates team up to give back to their communities.
In the United States, it’s August. In Canada, it’s May. In 2017, advisors and associates collected and donated food, clothes, school supplies and pet supplies. They built homes, beautified non-profit organizations and cleaned up parks, highways and beaches. They prepared and served meals for the homeless and families of children receiving medical treatment. They hosted walks and fundraisers for charitable causes. They volunteered at food banks, collecting nearly 10,000 pounds and packaging more than 32 tons of nonperishable food items.
A sampling of Raymond James Cares Month initiatives:
Carver Cares – In Mentor, Ohio, Carver Financial Services hosted its 29th annual food drive, which has collected 28,000 pounds of food for local community centers and provided more than 110,000 meals since its inception in 1988.
Love That Dress – In Naples, Florida, our branch collected 50 dresses to be sold in support of the PACE Center for Girls, which provides a safe environment for young women to be successful.
Goody Bags for Children – The Center for Financial Planning in Southfield, Michigan, sponsored children receiving treatment at nearby Mott Children’s Hospital and collected snacks, stuffed animals, toys, games and encouraging notes for 125 goody bags.
Greater Boston Food Bank – The Alex. Brown of Raymond James branch in Boston helped to pack 8,712 pounds of food at the Greater Boston Food Bank, feeding 7,260 families in need.
Alpha Omega Veterans Services – Teams across our Memphis corporate office and branch collected and delivered supplies to serve homeless and distressed military veterans.
Canadian Food Banks – Raymond James Ltd. associates collected 2,429 pounds of non-perishable food items and raised $6,899 for food banks across Canada.
Since the inception of Raymond James Cares Month, advisors and associates have contributed more than 35,000 hours of service during our official month of giving.
The United Way partners with organizations across America to create a better quality of life for others and strengthen our communities in the areas of education, income and health. The Raymond James annual United Way giving campaign dates to 1970, and the firm matches associate pledges dollar for dollar, up to $10,000.
For the eighth straight year, associates laced up their sneakers for Tampa Bay Heart Walk, benefiting the American Heart Association’s mission to save lives. Heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 killers, respectively, in the United States.
Three hurricanes in quick succession – Harvey, Irma and Maria – affected our communities in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Puerto Rico. Wildfires raged in northern California. We responded to offer aid and relief.
Raymond James partners with Funding the Future as the official sponsor for the Financial Literacy Tour, which uses the power of a live rock concert by the band Gooding to inspire middle and high school students to make smart financial decisions.
For many years, Raymond James associates have helped Habitat for Humanity build homes across the country. Since 2005, the firm has sponsored the full build of a home, with associates doing the work from start to finish.
