Raymond James Recruits $240 Million Team from Merrill Lynch in Michigan

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. ─ Raymond James recently welcomed Senior Vice President of Wealth Management Gary Cook, CIMA®, CRPC®, and Assistant Vice President of Wealth Management Kristina Daniel, CFP®, CDFA, to the Clinton Township, Michigan, office of Raymond James & Associates (RJA) – the firm’s traditional employee broker/dealer – according to RJA’s Northern Division Director, John Kuklenski.

Cook and Daniel joined Raymond James from Merrill Lynch where they managed approximately $240 million in client assets. Also joining the team is Senior Registered Client Service Associate Beth Decker. They operate as Cook Daniel Wealth Management of Raymond James. The Clinton Township office is managed by Lewis Walterhouse.

“We wanted a firm that was first and foremost a wealth management firm,” said Cook, “where its primary business was its Private Client Group. And we wanted the flexibility to be able to address and provide solutions for our clients that would work best for their interests, not that of the firm. About five years ago we created a vision for our team as specialists in certain areas: myself as the investment strategist, Kristina as the financial planner and Beth as the manager of operations, but with a view to becoming a financial advisor in the future. We believe we can fulfill this vision best at Raymond James.”

“Other considerations included the ability to market and brand ourselves with great support from the marketing services team – particularly in the area of social media,” added Daniel. “And we have already found the technology at Raymond James to be more client-friendly, interactive and robust. Additionally, as I build out my divorce planning practice, I am excited about meeting and exchanging best practices with members of the Network for Women Advisors who are already well-established in this specialized area of financial planning.”

Cook began his financial services career with Merrill Lynch in 1995, first in Rochester, Michigan, then Auburn Hills and finally Clinton Township. He is a Certified Investment Management AnalystSM and also holds the Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor SM designation. He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Oakland University in Rochester.

Daniel began her career in the financial services industry in 1998 when she took a job in the mailroom at Merrill Lynch. With the exception of two brief stints at The Huntington Investment Company, she remained with Merrill Lynch until moving to Raymond James. She is a Certified Financial Planner™ professional and holds the Certified Divorce Financial Analyst® designation. She is a member of the Financial Planning Association and earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Oakland University.

“We are delighted to welcome Gary, Kristina and Beth to our office,” said Walterhouse, “They are well regarded in this community and have a demonstrated record of putting their clients’ interests first, which aligns perfectly with our Raymond James values. We are glad they discovered the services, support and resources we have to offer to help them continue to grow their practice.”
