Raymond James Financial Institutions Division Welcomes Team of Six Managing Approximately $700 Million in Client Assets

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. Raymond James recently welcomed a team of six to the firm’s growing Financial Institutions Division (FID) in Nashville, Tennessee, according to Tim Killgoar, senior vice president and head of FID. The team, which operated as The Oakley Group while at SunTrust Investment Services, Inc., joins Pinnacle Asset Management, an existing investment program that aligns with Raymond James FID for investment and wealth management services.

“The advisors and team members of The Oakley Group at Pinnacle are notable additions to our growing Financial Institutions Division,” said Killgoar. “We continue to value our longstanding, mutually beneficial relationship with Pinnacle, and are pleased to provide the type of superior support and service that our FID partners and their clients can expect from Raymond James.”

The team includes Sam Oakley, managing director of Pinnacle Asset Management and RJFS financial advisor; financial advisors Jon Lockmiller, Brian Dixon and Taylor Francis; client services director Beverly Herbert; and sales associate Kerry Oakley. While at SunTrust, the advisors previously managed approximately $700 million in client assets.

“In many ways, this move to Pinnacle Asset Management and Raymond James feels like a return to my advisor and investment roots,” said Sam Oakley. “With the dedicated support of Raymond James’ Financial Institutions Division, our team will have access to high-quality products, services and technology at our fingertips, allowing us to serve our clients in the greatest capacity possible.”

Sam, who spent his entire career serving as a private financial advisor at SunTrust Investment Services, has been in the industry for approximately 34 years. Under his leadership, SunTrust formed The Oakley Group, a team of investment professionals specializing in investment management, comprehensive financial planning, retirement and estate planning, business planning and more. Sam graduated from the Haslam School of Business at the University of Tennessee and earned his master’s degree from the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. He has also earned the Accredited Asset Management Specialist (AAMS®) designation from the College for Financial Planning.

Lockmiller had been with SunTrust and SunTrust Investment Services for 20 years, beginning as a teller before moving into investments. He earned his bachelor’s and his MBA from Middle Tennessee State University and later earned his Certified Retirement Planning Consultant (CRPC®) from the College for Financial Planning.

Dixon worked with SunTrust Investment Services since 2004, serving first as an investment associate and then quickly moving up as a financial consultant with The Oakley Group. Prior to that, he worked in various roles for UBS and Ameriprise. Dixon earned his bachelor’s degree at Milsaps College in Mississippi and the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) certification through Belmont University’s Center for Executive Education.

Francis worked at SunTrust Investment Services as an investment officer and sales associate since 2010, before joining The Oakley Group in 2014. Prior to that, he was with A.G. Edwards in Missouri for four years. He graduated from Western Kentucky University with a bachelor’s in 2005 and has since earned his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) certification and Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®) designation.

Herbert had also worked with The Oakley Group for 20 years as team lead, and prior to that was the marketing director for SunTrust Investment Services. She began her career as a private banker and credit advisor for Metropolitan Federal Savings and Loan. Herbert earned her bachelor’s from Belmont and is working toward her Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA®) designation.

Kerry Oakley also comes from SunTrust Investment Services. He earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from Lipscomb University.

“The Oakley Group represents an unbelievable wealth of talent and experience,” said Gary Collier, branch manager of Pinnacle Asset Management in Tennessee. “Sam and his team have been a fixture in our community for many, many years. They are proven and established advisors who help clients preserve and build their assets. This is a very significant addition to our team.”

Pinnacle Asset Management began operations in a single location in downtown Nashville, Tennessee, in 2000 and has since grown to approximately $21.8 billion in assets as of September 30, 2017. As the second-largest bank holding company headquartered in Tennessee, Pinnacle operates in 11 primarily urban markets in Tennessee, the Carolinas and Virginia.
