Raymond James Recruits $350 Million Advisor Team to Independent Channel in Richmond, VirginiaST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Raymond James recruited financial advisors Scot Morris, Alex Brand, CFA®, Alicia Borghi and Barbara Wiltshire to Raymond James Financial Services, Inc., (RJFS) – the firm’s independent broker/dealer – in Richmond, Virginia, according to Tom Harrington, Northeast regional director for RJFS.
The advisors, along with client service manager Hasti Thompson, operate as Z3 Capital Partners and join from Wells Fargo Advisors. At Wells Fargo, the advisors managed approximately $350 million in client assets and had about $2.5 million in annual production. The group works with a variety of clients, including high-net-worth retirees and their families, small business professionals, attorneys and physicians.
“We wanted to work with an investment firm whose focus remains on clients and the wealth management business,” said Morris, principal at Z3 Capital and RJFS financial advisor. “We also wanted our own independence, and Raymond James has a platform that would cater to us and help facilitate our independent business better than anyone on Wall Street could for us. Being in the industry for over 30 years, you know what works best for you and your clients, and Raymond James offers us the freedom to decide how to run our practice.
“Our team is very focused on individual investing, and we spend a great deal of time on investment analysis and customized portfolios for our clients,” continued Morris. “So the depth of investment research at the firm was an important factor in our decision as well. We’re looking forward to growing our practice at Raymond James.”
Morris has over three decades of financial services industry experience, beginning at Branch, Cabell & Co. in 1986 and later working at RBC Capital Markets and Wells Fargo. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
Brand, partner at Z3 Capital and RJFS financial advisor, joined the team in 2015 after nearly 20 years of institutional investing experience. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Richmond and his MBA from Georgia State University, and earned his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) designation in 1997.
Borghi, partner at Z3 Capital and RJFS financial advisor, has more than two decades of financial services experience. She earned her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Plattsburgh.
Wiltshire, financial advisor, joined the financial services industry more than 30 years ago after a career as an educator.
Borghi and Wiltshire each began their financial services careers at Branch, Cabell & Co., later transitioning to RBC and Wells Fargo alongside Morris.
“With more than 100 years of combined industry experience, Scot, Alex, Alicia and Barbara are a knowledgeable team that has successfully built their practice with a client-first approach,” said Harrington. “Raymond James offers advisors a unique combination of independence and support, and we’re pleased that the Z3 Capital group chose us as their partner as they grow their independent practice.”
