Raymond James recruits $241 million advisor team in Pikeville, Kentucky
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Raymond James welcomed Jimmy “J.R.” Blackburn and Reed Potter, Jr. to Raymond James Financial Services (RJFS) – the firm’s independent broker/dealer – in Pikeville, Kentucky, according to David Sisemore, Midwest regional director for RJFS. The advisor team joins Raymond James from Merrill Lynch, where they previously managed approximately $241 million in client assets. Joining them are Cheryl Robinette, CFP® and financial advisor, Brianna LeRae Blackburn, financial advisor, Zachary Lukins, financial advisor, Evelyn Bear, client service, and Misty R. Potter, client associate. Together, they operate as Legacy Financial Investment Services.
“When reviewing firms, we were looking for somewhere we could really get a fresh start,” said Blackburn. “Raymond James felt like the right place to do that, as here we are able to preserve our way of doing business with firm values and principles that align perfectly with ours. Our team made the move to help clients transition to a firm with a client-centric culture based on integrity, mutual trust, conservatism and independence.”
J.R. Blackburn, managing director and senior wealth manager at Legacy Financial and RJFS branch manager, has been in the financial services industry for over 26 years, working with firms such as Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch, most recently. Outside of work, Blackburn has served on various boards, including the Southeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the Appalachian Pregnancy Care Center and the East Kentucky Exposition Center. He and his wife, Shirley, helped to cofound a charity organization called Coats 4 Kids, which he values near and dear to his heart.
“The level of independence offered at Raymond James allows us to have better control of how we serve our clients, while also having the support and offerings from the firm,” said Potter. “Our decision to come over to Raymond James was made with the best interest of our clients at heart and with careful deliberation.”
Reed Potter, managing director and senior wealth manager at Legacy Financial and RJFS senior wealth manager, brings 22 years of experience in the financial services industry, working also with Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch in the past. A graduate of Transylvania University, he received a degree in business administration. He also received his Master of Business Administration from Morehead State University. In his spare time, Potter is an active member of the Pikeville Rotary Club and his local church, and serves as a director of the Big Sandy Heritage Museum and a trustee for the University of Pikeville.
“It’s a pleasure to welcome the team to our network of independent advisors,” said Sisemore. “Welcoming a team like this is truly a testament to the wide range of offerings, depth of resources and culture here at Raymond James. We look forward to supporting the team as they continue to grow and expand on their success.”
