BIO visit leads to business breakthrough

Don Hagan, CFA, of Day Hagan Asset Management based in Sarasota, Florida, knew the BIO visit was available to him as one of the many benefits of partnering with Raymond James. He had worked with Raymond James Trust before and had also visited the St. Petersburg headquarters campus to see the vast art collection of Tom and Mary James. His previous experiences demonstrated to Don, as he put it, “That whatever Raymond James chooses to do, they always do it very well.”

However, it wasn’t until he began working with a prospect who was very successful in the telecommunications industry that he gave the BIO visit serious consideration.

The By Invitation Only, or BIO, visit is a program that enables Raymond James financial advisors to bring high-net-worth clients, institutional clients, prospects or referral sources (i.e., lawyers, accountants, tax advisors and other financial and legal professionals) to the firm’s international headquarters in St. Petersburg. BIO visits give guests a unique opportunity to directly experience the culture of the firm, and meet with the experienced professionals and specialists whose expertise and talents support the firm’s financial advisors. More important, the BIO program helps advisors enhance and solidify relationships with clients and prospects, and inspires centers of influence to create successful, professional referral-based partnerships.

In Don’s case, the prospect was impressed with his firm, but she wanted to know more about Raymond James, since that is where her assets were being custodied. As a person who had started companies that went public, she liked to see the “nuts and bolts” of any operation, especially one that would be entrusted with helping manage her substantial financial assets. With the opportunity before him, Don obliged by setting up a BIO visit to the Raymond James home office.

“From the moment I called to arrange the visit to the final goodbye in the lobby after the art tour, the entire visit was a resounding success,” reports Don. “The Raymond James team made the entire process easy, interesting and, most importantly, informative. No detail was overlooked and nothing was left to chance.”

Don says the visits are especially beneficial for prospects and high-net-worth clients because Raymond James clearly demonstrates its value-add for complex planning and investment management in a professional and friendly manner.

“She’s financially sophisticated,” says Don of his former prospect turned client. “Because of her experience in starting companies and taking them public, she could immediately sense the difference between retail and the depth of what Raymond James provides.”
