Ben Cohen, CFP®
Ben Cohen represents the new generation of leadership and decision-making at Cohen Financial Management. He is a Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner and has about 15 years of financial industry experience, which is further enhanced by the mentorship of his father, Michael, a 50-year veteran of Wall Street. Together they manage well over half a billion dollars. Ben is proud to have been selected as one of Raymond James’ Global Top 50 advisors in 2020, from the more than 8,000 advisors in Raymond James worldwide.
In 2020, Ben was also honored by inclusion in the Financial Times Top 400 list of advisors nationwide and the Forbes list of Best-In-State Advisors. Prior to that, Ben was ranked multiple times in On Wall Street’s annual ranking of the top 40 advisors under the age of 40, and in 2016 was ranked 4th. He serves our clients as a financial advisor and planner, and serves our team as the manager. In addition, he manages the discretionary investment portfolios at our firm.
Ben guides clients through the Goal Planning & Monitoring process to help them bring more clarity and confidence to their financial future. He has the ability to articulate even the most complex financial concepts in a manner that clients can easily understand.
As a Certified Financial Planner™, Ben will uphold a fiduciary standard and abide by the seven principles of being a CFP®, which include integrity, objectivity, competence, fairness, confidentiality, professionalism and diligence.
Ben first began working alongside his father in 2006 at Bear Stearns, which became part of JP Morgan in 2008. He earned a bachelor’s degree in musical theatre with a minor in literature from Indiana University.
Before becoming a financial advisor, Ben performed onstage in Chicago and regionally, culminating with a role in the 2004 Broadway revival of “Gypsy” starring Bernadette Peters. His wife, Aurélia, is a theatre producer, general manager and nonprofit consultant, which keeps the couple very involved in the arts in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles.
Ben currently serves on the board of trustees for Writers’ Theatre in Glencoe, IL, a nationally renowned institution. He served for years on the board of the Music Theatre Company of Highland Park. He also volunteered with “Broadway Barks,” an annual charity event in the Broadway community to find permanent homes for kill-shelter animals.
Originally from Deerfield, Illinois, Ben lives in downtown Chicago with Aurélia and their children, Émile and Remy and Auggie. In his free time, Ben enjoys cooking with his wife, learning French, traveling, playing sports (softball, tennis, basketball), visiting new restaurants and attending the theatre.
