Barbara Shellman, MBA, APMA® Financial Advisor

Barbara joined the Carlyon-Stoops Family Financial Planning team in 2020. As a Financial Advisor she oversees the financial, retirement and income distribution planning needs for our clients. She works closely with our clients to design and implement a customized comprehensive financial plan and provides ongoing guidance and direction. Her primary focus is to help ensure clients have a clear vision and understanding of their financial plan because with knowledge and a plan clients feel more confident in their ability to achieve their goals. Understanding that life events, planned and unplanned, occur, Barbara and the advisors on the team work collaboratively to redesign financial plans as needed. Her top priority is to assist clients in achieving their financial future the way they envision it. Barbara is also responsible for overseeing client service, relationship management, business operations and marketing for the team. She has 9 years of experience in the financial, wealth and retirement planning industry with Raymond James. Earlier in her career, she worked in the banking industry as a commercial lender.

Barbara is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with an MBA in Finance and Allegheny College with a Bachelor of Science in Math and Economics. Barbara holds both the Series 7 and 66 licenses as well as life, health and variable insurance licenses and the Accredited Portfolio Management Advisor™ designation.

Barbara is originally from Rochester, NY, but moved to northern Michigan in 2001 and now calls Traverse City home. She is actively involved in the community. She has been a SCORE mentor since 2011 and serves on the executive committee and is chair of the marketing committee. Outside of work, she enjoys cooking, running, hiking, reading, knitting, and spending time with her three sons, daughter in law and grandson.
