Recognized qualifications and expertise:

Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) is a professional designation awarded to financial advisors who have passed rigorous coursework and an examination to prove their fluency in all aspects of financial planning. CFPs must undergo years of training—4,000 to 6,000 hours in total—before they are eligible to place the letters CFP after their name. They’re also obligated to continue their education even after receiving certification.

High-net-worth individuals have unique needs that require wealth managers with more than a basic financial planning background. Offered by the Investments & Wealth Institute, the Certified Private Wealth Advisor (CPWA®) certification is an advanced credential created for wealth managers who specifically advise high-net-worth clients. CPWAs understand the challenges of high-net-worth individuals and use their knowledge and training to help them monetize and preserve their assets, reduce their tax burden, optimize growth, and transfer wealth. They are experienced in portfolio management, family dynamics, asset protection, charitable giving, estate planning, and retirement planning.

Financial professionals who hold the Certified Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC®) designation demonstrate expertise in retirement planning beyond standard industry testing and licensing programs. According to the College for Financial Planning, the credentialing organization, and sponsor of the CRPC designation, individuals must complete an online instructor-led or self-study course program, pass a final designation exam (online and timed), and complete 16 hours of continuing education every two years to earn the right to use the CRPC marks.

Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA®) is a professional designation for advisors specializing in helping business owners plan and execute their business exit strategies. These advisors are trained in various aspects of exit planning, including business valuation, value enhancement, and succession planning.

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the certification marks CFP®, Certified Financial Planner,  CFP Logo Flame Design and  CFP Logo Plaque Design in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete CFP Board’s initial and ongoing certification requirements.
