As the President of Plail Wealth Management, Jon leads his team and fosters a culture focused on providing both a high level of value and client service, while having fun in the process. There is a high importance placed on each team member having the aptitude and joy for their role, so it never feels like a job, but more of a passion. We are happy to have them as our first Crux Wealth Advisors affiliate office in the Northeast.
One of Jon’s other priorities is for his clients to feel more confident and comfortable in their financial situation. This process starts with a financial plan, which helps them to see where they are, as well as where they are headed. This is designed to take most, if not all, of the stress and guesswork out of making financial and investment decisions. It also provides the framework to make all decisions related to the management of wealth, such as insurance, tax, education and estate planning. Clients receive a multifaceted view of their situation that includes both the big picture and a more detailed granular view. Ultimately, the process is aimed at simplifying clients’ financial situations, making it much less intimidating.
Jon began his career with a small financial planning firm in 2008 before joining Merrill Lynch in 2011 and attaining the title of first vice president of wealth management. In 2021, he decided to move on from Merrill Lynch to gain the independence, allowing him to focus his time on the best interests of his clients. Raymond James provides the right platform for the professionals at Plail Wealth Management, a practice with “clients’ best interest” at the core of its values. Now, most of his days are spent in a combination of meetings and conversations with clients, portfolio and financial management, financial planning and overall strategy, as well as a healthy dose of reading.
In 2019, Jon was named to Forbes’ Best-in-State Next-Gen Wealth Advisors list, which recognized the country's top advisors representing the wealth management industry's future*. He has also earned the Certified Financial Planner™ certification, Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor, and Retirement Benefits Consultant designations. Jon earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a Finance concentration from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He also completed a Certificate of Financial Planning at New York University’s School of Professional Studies.
Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and federally registered in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete CFP Board's initial and ongoing certification requirements.
* SHOOK Research considered advisors born in 1980 or later with a minimum 4 years relevant experience. Advisors have built their own practices and lead their teams; joined teams and are viewed as future leadership; or a combination of both. Ranking algorithm is based on qualitative measures derived from telephone and in-person interviews and surveys: service models, investing process, client retention, industry experience, review of compliance records, firm nominations, etc.; and quantitative criteria, such as assets under management and revenue generated for their firms. Investment performance is not a criteria because client objectives and risk tolerances vary, and advisors rarely have audited performance reports. Rankings are based on the opinions of SHOOK Research, LLC. Neither SHOOK nor Forbes receives compensation from the advisors or their firms in exchange for placement on a ranking. Raymond James is not affiliated with Forbes or Shook Research, LLC. This ranking is not indicative of advisor’s future performance, is not an endorsement, and may not be representative of individual clients’ experience. Out of 6,389 advisors considered, 1,489 made the final list in 2019. For more information see www.SHOOKresearch.com.
My family and friends are my central focus. When I’m outside of the office, most of my time is spent with my wife, Jen, and our three children, Eva, Zoe, and Dax. It’s easy to get lost in our schedules, but we try to focus on quality time with each other. As an active family, we enjoy traveling, skiing, boating, hiking and playing basketball together. I have also been a loyal fan of the Buffalo Bills, dating back to the four Super Bowl years, and since my wife doesn’t share my enthusiasm, I am aspiring to be a dad to three more little fans.
Helping people is important to me, and I’m fortunate to be able do that through paid work in the practice, as well as pro bono work for young people and those that are typically underserved. I am passionate about the impact a solid foundation of financial understanding can have in everyone’s life, which I think, is significantly lacking in our education system today.
