A thoughtful, attentive advisor, James R. Baker’s underlying mission is to develop, implement and monitor appropriate plans for his clients based on their goals and their tolerance for risk. With a willingness to listen to individuals as if they are the only investor in the world, Jim is dedicated to assisting his clients in meeting their financial needs.
Before joining Raymond James as a financial advisor, Jim worked at MML Investors Services, Inc. (MMLISI) for five years, where he served as a financial advisor and equity sales coordinator. He obtained his Series 7 General Securities license, his Series 63 State Law license, his Series 24 General Securities Principal license, and his Series 4 Options Principal license while at MMLISI. Jim, with his father Rex M. Baker, Jr., joined Raymond James in 1990. He located his office in Emmaus that same year. In 1998, Jim purchased a vacant church building one block from downtown Emmaus. He has renovated the interior into attractive offices and cordially invites clients to visit his “unique” branch. While at Raymond James, Jim has obtained his Series 53 Municipal Securities Principal license and his Series 65 Uniform Investment Advisor Law license.
Jim graduated from Lehigh University in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in economics. In 2003, he began seeking professional designations and completed the coursework requirements to earn his CAP® (Chartered Advisor In Philanthropy®) designation from The American College. By the summer of 2008, he had earned his ChFC® (Chartered Financial Consultant®) designation from The American College. In 2008 he then sat for and passed the comprehensive board exam to become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™professional. A firm believer in continuing education and the need to maintain his hard-earned professional designations, Jim continues to participate in the continuing education opportunities provided by Raymond James at its conferences and by the industry.
Jim takes pride in his involvement in the community. He has served on the board of the Emmaus Main Street Program since 1995 and has served the Lehigh County Conservation District since the mid-1980s. Jim’s community involvement is focused on quality of life issues.
Jim grew up in Zionsville, Pennsylvania, on a farm. He currently resides in a log home he helped build in 1989. He likes the great outdoors and enjoys hiking and wildlife photography. He is an amateur astronomer and botanist, and tries to live “green”.
