David Beaver,
CPFA™, CPM®, CIMA®, CPWA®
Senior Vice President, Wealth Management
Prior to joining Raymond James in 2023, David was with Merrill Lynch for 26 years and celebrated relationships with an ambitious clientele that span the wealth continuum and generations of families. Sharing his entrepreneurial spirit with clients of a similar mindset, he has come to serve successful men and women – business owners (including local manufacturers, retailers, builders and wholesalers), executives, attorneys and retirees in Guam and on the mainland.
While diverse in their paths to his door, most clients have reached the point where managing their myriad financial challenges is either too challenging or time-consuming. As a result, David has built a practice in which delivering boutique-like attention with a staff of three talented support people becomes especially beneficial to clients.
In addition to serving as a “go-to financial resource” for clients, David strives for intense focus on investing and desire to exceed industry benchmarks – as calculated by total return (interest, dividends and appreciation). His approach begins by accounting for a client’s full balance sheet composed of all assets, including real estate, for example, as well as liabilities.
From there, David determines a targeted risk-and-return profile to help pursue a client’s goals – using beta and standard deviation to generate excess returns for each unit of risk. Then, he reviews and identifies macroeconomic trends – fiscal expansion/contraction, cost of funds, market trends such as splits or buybacks, and use of leverage in financial markets. He also identifies the risk premium for each sector and asset class.
Relying on Raymond James research and actively engaging with a select circle of investment managers, David identifies individual account components among selected equities, bonds and exchange traded funds. Careful scrutiny is given to cash flow growth, earnings growth, debt management, the quality of management, dividend growth, and evaluation of current returns over historical returns.
“My clients have worked so hard for the wealth they’ve accumulated. It represents their careers and the sacrifices they’ve made,” David says. “I explain my process to clients so that it’s transparent. Beyond investments, we work with clients’ attorneys to align estate-planning strategies. There are no do-overs when it comes to retirement planning, exit planning or legacy planning. We’re all in.”
David is a credentialed, lifetime learner who believes his rigorous and ongoing industry training allows him to bring clients an extra measure of knowledge and know-how. He holds the Certified Investment Management Analyst®, Certified Private Wealth Advisor®, Certified Portfolio Manager® and Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor® designations. He is also an account manager who can help clients pursue their objectives by managing on a discretionary basis his own personalized or defined strategies, which may incorporate individual stocks and bonds, Raymond James model portfolios, and third-party investment strategies.
Generous with his time and resources, David has long served as a board member of various charitable organizations. A graduate of the University of Maryland, David’s passions include cycling, paddle boarding, reading novels, studying, brewing beer and time spent with his wife, Marie, and his two daughters.
Investing involves risk and you may incur a profit or loss regardless of strategy selected, including diversification and asset allocation.
