Jim Donohue
Jim Donohue, CFP®, CIMA®, CPA Financial Advisor

Jim is devoted to helping his clients achieve financial independence and have the means to fulfill a purpose greater than themselves. He serves as his clients’ trusted financial advisor, helping them make sense of what initially appears confusing, simplifying the complicated and teaching them to focus on what they can control instead of stressing over the things they can’t.

Jim has over 30 years of experience in accounting and wealth management. His breadth and depth of knowledge, creative thinking, and extensive background in estate planning, charitable giving, investment management and risk management have served his clients well.

His CPA/tax-centric background includes extensive experience in business sales and succession planning, estate and charitable giving planning, and serving as the central planner on the client’s advisory team coordinating the efforts of all involved parties.

Jim works with closely held business owners, widows, retirees and soon-to-be retirees. He is passionate not only about what he does but whom he does it for and why. His personal commitment to values-based investing is evidenced by his own charitable initiative of contributing at least 10% of his gross earnings to charitable organizations through his donor-advised fund at Raymond James.

He is committed to the ongoing development of values-based impact investing models and a refinement of broader environmental, social and governance (ESG) investment concepts.

The evolution of Jim’s career path followed a logical progression. As a CPA, tax partner and member of the executive committee management team at Gallagher Flynn & Company CPAs, his interest in saving clients money through tax planning progressed to estate planning and then overall financial planning.

He obtained the professional designation of Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner, which eventually led to helping clients with the investment aspect of their financial planning. He obtained the Certified Investment Management AnalystSM designation and formed Gallagher Flynn & Company’s wealth management division, which created an even greater focus on the investment side of the overall planning he was doing.

Jim joined our team in 2019, led by his initiative to find the best local team of advisors that had synergy with his financial planning background and a focus on holistic comprehensive planning. He also considered it a strong positive that our broker/dealer was Raymond James, a firm with a solid reputation for ethics, financial strength and industry-leading resources.

In addition to his position at Gallagher Flynn & Company CPAs, Jim was the founder and managing director of Gallagher Flynn Financial Advisors (which later became Donohue Wealth Management). He holds Series 7, 63 and 65 securities licenses and is a graduate of Manhattan College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Jim is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Vermont Society of Certified Public Accountants. In addition, he served on the Vermont legislative affairs division of the Chamber of Commerce.

Jim lives in Burlington and Naples, Florida, with his wife, Diane. Outside of the office, he enjoys golfing, walking, swimming and spending time with friends and family. He is a member of Destiny Church in Naples, Florida, and Ignite Church in Williston, Vermont.
