Chamber Installation

Clients these days are asking, “How can the market be doing so well when the political environment is so dysfunctional?” Although politics can (and does) influence many aspects of our lives- at the end of the day investment markets are all about growth and change, not politics. In spite of the divisive and negative rhetoric coming from all parts of our government, business across the globe is good. Just last week the International Monetary Fund reported that global growth reached 2.9%, the highest in 7 years. And the Wall Street Journal reports that global manufacturing rose to 52.9, the highest since 2011. In our portfolios we are selectively adding assets to international companies.

Along the same lines, the business environment here in the San Francisco bay area is booming. Last month I had the pleasure of beginning my year of service as the Chair of the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce. Our 20 person Board of Directors is active, engaged, and very positive on the future of our area. At our annual planning meeting we chose 6 initiatives for the coming year: Health and Quality of Life, Business Advocacy, Communication, Economic Development, Partnerships, and an exciting new initiative, the Walnut Creek Chamber Foundation—a way for our businesses to provide support and pathways for our residents who can benefit from leadership and job training. You might enjoy taking 10 minutes to watch the video below of my talk at the installation luncheon where I describe our plans for the year.

We all know that we live in a world of unpredictability. It is a fact of life. But, if we keep our angle of vision pointed toward what is going right, we can more fully participate in the fantastic growth that is ahead of us. I wish a happy and healthy summer to everyone!
