Marty Smith
Marty Smith, CFP® Retired

Marty is enjoying his retirement after serving his clients for over 46 years! He is still practicing being retired (his new fulltime job) while enjoying lots of family time and yardwork.

Two weeks in 1977 changed Marty Smith’s life forever – and for the better. First, he joined his father’s investment business as an A.G. Edwards advisor. Then he married his sweetheart, now his wife of over four decades.

During his 30-year tenure with A.G. Edwards, Marty worked for a decade with his father, Virgil Smith, before being invited to open a branch office in Rockford, Illinois. It was the opportunity he had been born to take. In just a few years, he had led this new branch to a level of performance that was among the top 10 percent of branches in his region and earned the title of vice president, as well as the Certified Financial Planner™ certification. Since joining Raymond James in July 2007, Marty has spent the last third of his career practicing the same conservative values of wealth preservation with his trademark integrity.

Marty’s personal initiative is every bit as robust as his professional drive. While earning his Bachelor of Arts in economics with a minor in math from Valparaiso University, Marty was also a collegiate varsity wrestler. He lives by his belief that who we are is demonstrated by what we do for others. He has served as international president and chairman of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, president of the Woodstock Rotary Club, chairman of the United Methodist Church of Woodstock, and a member of the Rock Valley United Way Allocation Committee. He is an Eagle Scout and past director of the Blackhawk Area Council Boy Scouts Association, as well as past chairman of its finance committee.

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the certification marks CFP®, Certified Financial Planner,  CFP Logo Flame Design and  CFP Logo Plaque Design in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete CFP Board’s initial and ongoing certification requirements.
