John provides comprehensive wealth management and investment advisory services to retired individuals and their families. In addition to working closely with retirees, John also helps service professional athletes and small to medium sized local business owners as they strive to achieve their own retirement goals and risk management needs. John enjoys his continued engagement with our client’s families including their successor generations, as well as developing new client relationships. John's ultimate goal for his clients is to be able to achieve all of their needs and goals while maintaining a lifestyle they are accustomed to.

John joined the Mathis Wealth Management of Raymond James team in May of 2014. During John’s time at Raymond James, he has been recognized as a top Financial Advisor in the firms Advisory Mastery Program as he has qualified for the Achiever’s Club in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, & 2021*. In addition, John also qualified for the Leaders Club in 2022, which is only awarded to a select group of top tier Advisors at Raymond James. John has also been recognized by Raymond James in its quarterly The Culture publication as an “Advisor of the Future: Engaging the Next Generation of Clients” because of his success in leveraging home office teams and subject matter experts to meet evolving client needs and preferences. Outside of Raymond James, John was interviewed by Ocala Magazine in their 2019 Top 40 Under 40 publication.

Prior to joining Raymond James, John spent 3 years as a Financial Advisor at Principal Financial Group in The Villages, FL and as an Advisor Consultant at Franklin Templeton Investments in St. Petersburg, FL from February 2008 until June 2010. At Franklin Templeton he worked closely with Mutual Fund Managers and cultivating relationships with Financial Advisors from several brokerage firms all over the country.

John received his bachelor's degree from Mount Union College, where he majored in Business Administration with a double concentration in Finance and Marketing and minored in Economics. John's extra-curricular activities included being a member of the Mount Union Investment Team and the Mount Union Football Team where he was a part of two Division III National Championships. Outside of the office John is an avid sports fan, especially when helping with local youth and high school football. John oversees the operations of Ocala 4 Football, a non-profit organization that responsible for running his local community’s youth Marion County NFL Flag Football organization, which serves over 700 children annually ranging ages 4-14 years old. During John’s summers, he spends his time traveling around the country with his youth NFL Flag All Star Teams to various Regional & National Tournaments. John has also spent a good chunk of his time with local high school athletes, helping assist in getting them exposure for potential college scholarships through mentoring and offseason showcase events through his non-profit. Most importantly, John is devoted to his family where he spends most of his free time with his wife Jennifer and children Carter, Caroline, & Carson.

John holds the Series 6, 7, 63, 65, and Life/Health/Annuity licenses. In addition to these licenses, John holds the Accredited Asset Management Specialists Designation.

*Awarded to Financial Advisor Trainees with 0-8 years length of service to the firm. Qualifications based on current Advisory Mastery Program production & anniversary goals.
