As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, Brian has met rigorous education and experience requirements and is held to high ethical standards. By providing well-informed financial, investment, retirement, estate and tax planning, Brian focuses on helping his clients take a step back and assess their entire financial picture – so that the choices they make now can help support the futures they desire.

An active and empathetic listener, Brian draws on his extensive experience as a psychologist to identify and address the unique needs of individual clients. He spent 13 years in a private counseling practice before making the decision to help individuals and their families pursue their financial goals. This choice led him to join Raymond James in 2000 and to ultimately establish Brian Matthews & Company in 2005.

Brian holds a Bachelor of Science in microbiology and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Michigan. He went on to earn his Master of Science in clinical psychology from Eastern Michigan University in 1991. In addition to these degrees, Brian attained his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification shortly after entering the financial services industry.

Originally from Trenton, Michigan, Brian resides in Brownstown, Michigan, with his daughter, Dana. When not working with clients, Brian enjoys travel, golf, and writing.
