John focuses on serving affluent families and individuals, applying his significant industry experience and education to the financial issues most associated with high net worth, including wealth preservation, tax mitigation, estate planning and multigenerational financial planning.
He enjoys building loyal, long-standing relationships with his clients. He helps them prioritize and pursue their goals using every tool available to him, including investment research, retirement planning resources, and protection strategies such as life insurance and long-term care.
He also serves as managing director of investments for the practice, devoting his attention to asset allocations and investment returns as well as conducting due diligence on new investment opportunities.
John’s financial industry experience spans nearly 50 years. He joined Raymond James in 2012 when the firm acquired Morgan Keegan, where he served as managing director and worked for eight years. Previously, he was regional president at Regions Trust and also worked at Morgan Keegan Trust Company. Earlier, he was chief financial officer at Kemmons Wilson, Inc., (the family office for the founder of Holiday Inn) where he spent 18 years, and a manager of investment consulting at Arthur Anderson.
John earned a Bachelor of Science in commerce with distinction from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the University of Texas. He has been a member of the Raymond James/Morgan Keegan Chairman’s Club since 2004* and was named as one of Barron’s Top 1,000/1,200 U.S. Financial Advisors from 2012 through 2019.
Supporting his hometown of Memphis has always been important to John. He is a board member of Methodist Healthcare (three years on the system board and 12 years on the foundation board) and a board member of United Way of the Mid-South, where he served as chair for six years and was named to the organization’s Tocqueville Society, which recognizes local philanthropic leaders and volunteer champions in the United States. John previously served on the board of ArtsMemphis for 20 years, on the board of the local public radio and television stations (WKNO) for 10 years, and was named as a national volunteer of the year by PBS.
John was born in Memphis and has lived here for the last 44 years. He and his wife, Jana, have four children, John IV, George, Hillary and Holt. In his free time, John enjoys tennis, travel, fly-fishing and fine wine.
