Giving Back To Our Community
The Millstone Evans Group donated time and muscle to Impact on Education during its annual “Crayons to Calculators” school supply donation drive and backpack stuffing event.
Impact on Education partners with three area nonprofits to support Crayons to Calculators – Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley, I Have a Dream Foundation of Boulder County, and Sister Carmen Community Center. This school year, the groups will provide full backpacks to 11,274 students – pre-school through high school – across Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley in Colorado.
More than 11,000 students in the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley school districts qualify for free and reduced lunch – an indicator of poverty. The cost of basic school supplies presents a financial burden for many of these children’s families. Crayons to Calculators aims to cut that cost and move one step closer to eliminating the achievement gap. Having the right school supplies is a critical first step to help a student achieve higher literacy levels, improve academic performance, and graduate. It also enables schools to operate more effectively.
The team at Branch 34X was honored to spend three days stuffing backpacks and preparing them for delivery to the appropriate schools and grade levels.
In April and October, the group donated 15 hours to make one of the most beautiful roads in Boulder appear even more idyllic, collecting 10 bags of garbage from the roadside during its annual Adopt-A-Road effort. The community was grateful, particularly bicyclists, who expressed their thanks while riding by.
