Karen grew up as part of a large family in a small town. She, along with her siblings, participated in family chores and helped with the family’s construction business. Karen’s parents instilled discipline, diligence, and a strong work ethic in their children which prepared them for their own respective business professions.
One of Karen’s most important lessons was learning the appreciation of the purpose and value of money as a tool. She says, “Because we each had responsibilities in helping with our family’s chores, we learned to be inventive and resourceful in the tough times.” She recalls her Dad often saying, “Never regret honoring the trust of your customers, be open and honest, and always do what’s right for them.” Karen learned so much about business through the osmosis of hearing her Dad on business calls and meeting with customers around their kitchen table. He was a great influence and his wisdom marches on.
After attending college at the University of Missouri, Karen began her career in the financial industry with a corporate position at AG Edwards in St. Louis. A few years later, she decided she really wanted to get ‘out in the field’ to work with people on the frontlines who sincerely needed help. She gained a wealth of experience working for large and small firms in the area. Eventually she decided to return to her roots and founded the firm known as One Financial.
Karen learns what her clients are working toward before determining where they should invest. She believes it is imperative to take time to understand a goal before making any investments.
