Ty Barbary
Ty Barbery, MPAS™ President & CEO, ENC Financial Advisor, RJFS

Ty has been dedicated to serving his clients throughout a career that spans nearly two decades. His goal is for his clients to feel understood, informed and in control of all aspects of their financial life. He wants them to be competent and confident about planning and investing – and, above all, happy to have the team at Echelon Northwest Capital as their trusted financial partner.

“I always thought that the investment field was a wide-open gate to financial goals that everyone had access to,” Ty says. “In my opinion, it does not discriminate against anyone except the impatient. I want to help people through that gate so they may walk with confidence on their own financial path.”

Ty helps his clients with all phases of wealth management, from building wealth to preserving it and eventually distributing it to fund their retirement and leave a legacy. Every recommendation he makes to his clients comes from a singular focus on their goals and needs. Once he understands their priorities, he works with them to develop specific strategies.

While Ty is proficient in all areas of financial planning, retirement income and sudden wealth are two particular areas of specialty. He advises retirees and near-retirees on the best way to use their assets to live comfortably within a realistic spending plan and avoid running out of money prematurely. He also helps families and individuals manage the financial ramifications of receiving a sudden influx of wealth through an inheritance, a business sale, a divorce or a legal settlement.

Coaching his clients to become better investors is important to Ty as well. “I constantly reach out to clients and teach them about their investments and coach them on what to do next. A lot of my job is guiding and leading the clients and the team,” he says.

Ty emphasizes the importance of being resilient in overcoming market volatility. “Resilience provides the tenacity an investor needs to have to be able to withstand down markets and also take advantage of opportunities that they may present.”

“I prepare my clients for all situations,” Ty says. “I help them understand worst-case scenarios. Because of this, I believe they can be much more confident.”

When Ty is not busy serving his clients, you will find him analyzing portfolios, researching market trends and making strategic and tactical investment decisions.

Ty moved his practice to Raymond James in 2020 after 14 years with Edward Jones. Previously, he served as a U.S. Air Force search and rescue pilot for nearly 10 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the U.S. Air Force Academy and a Master of Science degree from the College for Financial Planning.

Leadership is Ty’s strong suit and he enjoys sharing that in different ways. He is an honorary commander at the 92 Air Refueling Wing, Fairchild AFB; a board member of the Inland Northwest Council for the Boy Scouts of America; and a past president of the West Plains Chamber of Commerce.

Ty was born in New York City but has lived in many places due to his military career. Spokane has been his home for more than 20 years, where he lives with his wife, Amy, and where they have raised their sons, Noah and Canaan. “My family decided to put down roots here in Spokane because we love the area, the people and all of the different ways we can contribute to the community,” Ty says.

In his free time, Ty enjoys coaching, playing soccer and watching track and field. He is also learning how to play golf when he can. He loves a quality cigar, as well as a great beer, whiskey and scotch. He considers himself somewhat of a homebody because he loves working on his house and spending time with his wife and two boys.
