Bernard J. Cohen

Managing Director

As Bernie has guided his clients and their families through nearly six decades of market and generational changes, he has seen his clients’ families grow alongside his own, and he has seen many of their businesses – like his – become multigenerational family enterprises.

This has only reinforced his belief in the power of prudent, long-term investing and comprehensive wealth planning. Since launching his career in New York City with Bruns, Norman & Co in 1966, he has borne witness to countless milestones, celebrations and heartbreaks, remaining by his clients’ sides through their most important moments and as they have pursued and achieved lasting financial well-being.

Family is the foundational core of Cohen & Son Wealth Management of Raymond James. Bernie knows that, for parents, there is nothing more important than providing their children opportunities they never had. And he himself cherishes the opportunity he has had to share a business with his son, Jonathan Cohen, who joined the practice in 1991 as a financial advisor, and his granddaughter, Camille Marchesani, who joined as a client service associate in 2023.

In his own practice, Bernie specializes in retirement planning, analyzing the many options for Social Security recipients and risk management.

Financial advising had been a calling for Bernie, who started investing at the age of 13. In 1964, he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Bowling Green University, then in 1966 he joined the firm of J.S. Love & Company as an investment advisor in New York.

Bernie was born in Queens, New York, and currently lives in Lake Worth, Florida.

Bernie is an accomplished traveler, having been to every continent, including Antarctica. He is also avid sport shooter. Above all, he enjoys being alongside four generations of his family – his wife, Susan; three children, Jonathan, Robert and Toby; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Additionally, Bernie is a supporter of the Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization and is a member of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity.

Raymond James is not affiliated with the above organizations and/or charitable causes.
