David M. Kolpien,

CFP® Vice President, Investments
Like many boys, David dreamed of becoming a major league baseball player. As years passed and his talent grew, it looked like his dream might come true. But, as fate would have it, two surgeries during his college years ended his major-league hopes. It was through his love of baseball, however, he also developed the heart of a coach – something that would ultimately shape his desire to help people succeed.

While attending Indiana-Purdue University Fort Wayne and playing on the school’s baseball team, David worked part time for Lifeline Youth and Family Services, a nonprofit organization that helps troubled kids. When he graduated in 1997, David took a full-time position as the coordinator of Lifeline’s group homes, where one of his roles was working with counselors to develop and implement treatment plans to provide direction for kids who many times didn’t want any help. He also kept his connection to baseball by coaching at both high school and college levels, as well as instructing youth in small group and camp settings.

Along with counseling and coaching, another interest of David’s was (and still is) business and finance. And, while he worked at Lifeline, he sought for a way to combine his counseling abilities with a way to help people better manage their finances. He found that opportunity in 2001 as a financial advisor with Raymond James. Since then David has enjoyed collaborating with clients to develop “financial treatment plans” – as he sometimes calls them – to help enable clients to pursue their financial goals.

In order to better serve his clients, David completed the Certified Financial Planner™ professional certification, which requires him to complete the rigorous CFP® certification process, and requires him to meet ongoing certification renewal requirements.

Today, David, his wife, Kristin, and their three children enjoy life here in Fort Wayne, where you’ll find them riding bikes and participating in sports. David also coaches two travel baseball teams – among other sports – is a board member of the World Baseball Academy and is active in his local church.

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the certification marks CFP®.
