The S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial average hit new all-time highs this month, retracing previous highs from late 2021 and the beginning days of 2022. As we head into 2024, inflation readings have moderated, giving the markets hope for Fed rate cuts in the coming year. We will see. I hope you and your family and loved ones have a Happy New Year in 2024!

I recently read “Milton Friedman: The Last Conservative,” written by Jennifer Burns and published November 14, 2023. The book is a fun and balanced intellectual biography of famed economist Milton Friedman. Friedman may not have liked the book’s title, thinking of himself as a libertarian and classic liberal. Friedman was a force in economics during the second half of the 20th century and continues to shape strong opinions to this day. Friedman was a tireless and very effective defender of capitalism and freedom who had enormous impact on public policy. Very good read.
