Joseph Brockman Jr.,

CFP® Vice President, Investments

Joe addresses all aspects of each client’s financial picture, from preparing for their children’s education to planning for retirement to passing their assets on to their heirs. He finds great fulfillment in providing experienced financial guidance to the families, individuals and business owners he serves.

He credits two very important people for inspiring him to establish his career in the financial services industry more than 15 years ago – his father, a long-time financial advisor at Paine Weber, and his grandfather, who managed the trust department at First & Merchants Bank, which is today Bank of America.

From a young age, Joe saw firsthand the positive impact they had on the people they served. His father and grandfather instilled in him a passion and appreciation for the markets and a philosophy of helping others, and they mentored him on the importance of integrity, commitment and loyalty.

Joe holds Series 7 and 66 securities licenses and life and health insurance licenses and is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner. By being certified by the CFP Board, he has taken the extra step to demonstrate his professionalism by voluntarily submitting to the rigorous CFP® certification process that includes highly demanding education, examination, experience and ethical requirements.

Before joining Raymond James in 2009, Joe served as a financial advisor at Legg Mason and Smith Barney, both in Richmond. He received a bachelor’s degree in economics and business from the Virginia Military Institute where he was a four year letterman in lacrosse. He also earned an MBA from the Robins School of Business at the University of Richmond where he was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.

Born and raised in Richmond, Joe lives in Henrico with his wife, Jean, and children, Brock, Harrison and Ann Austin. He is a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. In his free time, Joe enjoys spending time with family and friends and squeezing in a game of golf when time allows.

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER,  CFP Logo Flame Design and  CFP Logo Plaque Design in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete CFP Board's initial and ongoing certification requirements.
