Here is an outline of our philosophy for how we approach helping our clients.

Financial and Personal Success

Our approach to Wealth Management strives for excellence in every area. You work hard and demand the very best from your team. You need a wealth advisory team that will meet you at your level and exceed your expectations. A team that will help you capture opportunities not well understood, help you avoid important financial mistakes and a team that will help you realize your vision and your business, career, family and personal goals.

Most advisors will say that they understand the challenges important to executives and business owners but there is no substitute for experience and competence in this area. It is one thing to know about something and another to have done it and learned how to do it well.

Comprehensive and Continuous Wealth Management

We believe in a comprehensive approach to wealth management because your success depends on having an integrated strategy and on understanding your entire financial picture.

Efficient, effective and focused implementation is key to success. It is also important to manage risk and to be aware of tax implications. We believe in proactive portfolio management and that financial

planning is an ongoing process. The moment a plan is developed it is, at best, an approximation and in need of regular review, correction and adjustment.

Estate Planning

We work with you to understand what is most important to your family and your business. We help create a customized strategy and then meet with you and your attorney to financialize and implement the strategy. We take a proactive role that saves you time and improves the quality of the estate plan, while optimizing the time you spend with your attorney.

Many advisors use estate planning as a way to sell insurance. We do not do this. We will always explore an approach that does not include insurance.

Career Success and Personal Development

We believe in your success and we are your partner in every way. If we identify a possible roadblock to your success, personal or professional, we will bring it up with you and explore ways in which to address it. We do not need to go here if you prefer not to but as we get to know you and your family, we can be a very objective and effective third party observer in your life. We often help identify areas that might inhibit the success of executives and recommend executive coaching services.

Because we are your partner in success and excellence, we are not afraid to disagree with you, to challenge you, and to talk about anything important to your professional and personal success.

Taxes

We work with your CPA to validate, discover and implement tax advantaged strategies. Oftentimes, we help identify opportunities that some tax advisors miss, particularly if they are not accustomed to the unique complexity associated with affluent investors. We also actively seek opportunities to harvest tax losses and to lessen your tax burden as it relates to investments and the timing of income and realized gains.

Company RSUs, Option Plans and Restricted Stock

We perform a deep analysis of your executive stock options and help you with a tax optimized strategy for execution and diversification. We take the time to know your employee stock plan so that we can help you optimize its benefits. We also make it easier for you to manage and diversify your restricted stock. We can help you prepare a 10b5-1 sales plan and we will work with your corporate council to make sure it is approved and done right.

A Family Resource

As our client, we care about you and your family. We are a resource for every member of your family. We take the time to educate you and your spouse on complicated financial concepts so that everyone understands the strategy and plan, and so no one feels like they are in the dark. This is important because things happen and the most informed member of your team may not always be there.

We provide Finance 101 education to your children in a group or private setting while they are in high school and when they start college. Having the right habits, understanding and mindset around money can make all the difference in life.

Investment Philosophy

"One Approach" Will Not Win in Every Market

We believe that success in investing is not simply about applying modern portfolio theory, leveraging quantitative methods, understanding fundamentals, or applying technical analysis. In order to successfully apply these methods, it is important to understand them well enough to know when not to use them and when they are the most relevant.

We also do not believe in using one tool or investment vehicle for investing. We believe there is an optimal use for ETFs, Managers, options and individual stocks depending on the characteristics of the specific market or sector/factor as well as your personal preferences.

If all you know is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. A myopic approach is blind to the possible benefits, risks and opportunities in the market.

Deep Understanding is Critical to Having a Flexible and Effective Strategy

We believe that firm understanding of economic theory, market fundamentals, financial accounting and quantitative methods are critical to the foundation necessary to help build and manage lasting wealth. A deep understanding in these areas is necessary to navigate changing and dynamic markets.

Focus on Long-term Goals But Adjust For Short-Term Risk and Opportunity

We believe in using well thought-out strategies with tactical elements designed to manage short- and long-term risk while taking advantage of important trends and opportunities. Markets are dynamic, always changing, and adjustments based on important economic, political and social factors and trends can make a real difference.

Managing Risk is Becoming More Important and Even More Difficult to Understand

Furthermore, we believe that it will be more and more difficult to be successful using any one approach. A keen understanding of risk within the global context and across all asset classes and sectors is becoming more and more important. True understanding of risk is also much more involved than understanding historical volatility and summary statistics. It requires an understanding of how everything fits together and where risk lies in the local and global economy.
