Alan M. Hughes,

ChFC®, AIF® Vice President, Investments

Since 1987, Alan has helped business owners and affluent individuals navigate the financial markets through the use of innovative planning strategies. Employing a combination of proprietary fundamental research and third-party technical investment analysis provides the framework his clients need to navigate both up and down market cycles. The establishment of realistic and achievable benchmarks for success provides the cornerstone to Alan’s process – and his journey with his clients.

Alan began his financial services career in 1987 with American Express Financial Advisors, now Ameriprise. He started in their training program before working as an advisor in Raleigh, North Carolina. During his 10 years with the company, Alan had a role similar to the one he has now, helping individuals and small businesses navigate the financial markets. From 1985 to 1987 he worked with Northwestern Mutual Life, where he was responsible for selling life insurance, and held his life and disability insurance licenses. Alan moved over to Morgan Keegan in 1997, transitioning to Raymond James when the company was acquired.

Alan attended North Carolina State University and successfully earned his Chartered Financial Consultant® designation through The American College. He maintains his designation by taking part in continuing education.

Alan is a 30-year member of the Raleigh Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, serving in multiple local and statewide capacities. He is also a 30-year member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church and a past volunteer with Boy Scouts of America Troop 357 Raleigh. Alan serves on the board of directors of Frankie Lemmon School, a school for the developmentally disabled.

Born in Danville, Virginia, Alan grew up in Tarboro, North Carolina, before moving to Raleigh to attend college. He’s made the city his home ever since. Alan and his wife, Evelyn, have two children: Sam and Alison. An avid outdoorsman, Alan enjoys hunting, fishing and wildlife watching. He is a certified barbecue judge sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society and a “Whole Hog” judge sanctioned by the NC Pork Council. Alan is a lifelong golfer, a passion passed down from his father and shared with his son. He enjoys cooking of all kinds, but particularly enjoys cooking outdoors on a grill or in a smoker.
