Matt Anderson,

CWS® Partner, AWMG Financial Planner, RJFS

Matt and the team work with clients from all over the country and all different backgrounds. “They are down-to-earth people who either earned their money through hard work, or inherited it and want to invest it appropriately so the next generation of their family can enjoy it as well,” Matt says.

He devotes much of each day to preparing financial plans and strategy proposals and holding client reviews. He also takes on projects for clients who have a distinct need or circumstance that requires some out-of-the-box thinking.

As a Certified Wealth Strategist®, Matt has training designed to give him the knowledge and skills to serve as a client’s point person in most wealth-related matters. “I may not have the answer to every question, but I will find a person who does,” Matt says.

Matt devotes a lot of time upfront learning about each client, what they are trying to achieve and what is getting in the way of accomplishing it. He then goes to work on a strategy, which could be anything from creating a more tax-efficient portfolio to bridging an income gap to leaving as much money as possible to their heirs or to charity.

“I genuinely try to give clients the best advice I possibly can and work with them to find the best strategy. I always try to explain complicated ideas in a simple fashion,” Matt adds.

Matt believes that the better you understand people as people, the better you will understand them as investors. “When I talk to clients, I think we spend 20% of our time talking about business. The other 80% is the important stuff, such as family, friends, hobbies and travel.”

Matt has three goals for his clients. “Goal one is to not outlive your money. Goal two is to enjoy it. Goal three is to lose as little sleep as possible worrying about it along the way,” he says. Matt is also a firm believer in the saying that “you can’t take it with you.” So unless your goal is to leave a large bequest, he encourages clients to enjoy the wealth they have built, rather than just save it.

Before joining Raymond James in May 2022, Matt was a senior vice president and financial advisor at D.A. Davidson in Lake Oswego, Oregon. He holds a B.S. in business administration from the University of Oregon. While at DA Davidson, Matt also completed the Portfolio Concepts Inc. Preferred Portfolio Management course.

Matt is dedicated to serving the community as well. “We are registered respite care providers for the state of Oregon and also donate to various charities,” he says.

Matt was born and raised in the greater Portland area and now resides in Wilsonville, Oregon. Matt enjoys archery hunting for elk, sitting in the duck blind with his dog, Cooper, running and snowboarding, but more than anything, just watching his daughters, Ainsley and Andi, teach him how to be a dad.
