James joined his brother, Kevin, as a managing partner at Heyman Investment Group in 2016, after 25 years of work in the financial services and software industries. Having worked for and partnered with some of the biggest names on Wall Street, James has a distinct understanding of the industry. He brings a different perspective to the business, the intricacies of investing, as well as strategic plan development, which is quite beneficial to the clients he serves.

James works closely with our high-income clients such as corporate executives, doctors, technologists, sales executives and business owners. His extensive knowledge around executive benefits, high-tax bracket-managed investing and financial planning has proven invaluable to his clients.

In addition to having served in executive roles at large companies, such as Vice President - Capital Markets for Lehman Brothers and Head of Global Financial Services for EMC Software, James is also an entrepreneur. He has been a founding member of multiple successful startup software companies for the financial services market. He developed each of these companies into multimillion-dollar businesses to their point of acquisition. He is a 1991 graduate of Virginia Tech, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

James and his wife, Lisa, reside in Newport News, Virginia. They have two daughters; Amanda is a graduate student at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, and Payton is an undergraduate student at Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. In his free time, James enjoys golf, other business ventures, and supporting his beloved Hokies.
