Living courageously

My family story that inspires my journey in supporting clients

We believe that behind every financial decision lies a powerful narrative—a story that shapes our values, dreams and aspirations. My son’s story illuminates my path toward helping clients. It reframed the way I serve my clients by helping them live for today – while planning for tomorrow. Your stories transcend mere numbers and charts to a legacy that reflects who you are and what truly matters.

“When you have a little bit of rain in life – look for the rainbow.” That’s what my son, Bobby, shared after his courageous medical journey the last couple of years. It’s a sentiment I also share – to look for all the moments to be grateful even during times of darkness.

In June 2021, Bobby suffered a hemorrhagic stroke as a result of an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) rupture. He went through emergency brain surgery at VCU in Richmond that saved his life. We were touched by the services provided by the Richmond Ronald McDonald house, where I now serve as an executive board member.

Then in October 2021, Bobby had a successful craniotomy to remove the AVM. The surgery for this rare disease took place at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in San Francisco – far from home. During this challenging time, my wonderful Teammate Claire Bundy – who you all know well sprang into action to help. I am forever grateful to her.

Thank you for asking for updates on Bobby, my family, and to see how I am doing. That means so much to me. I feel so uplifted by the tremendous outpouring of support and prayers, and I cannot thank you enough.

Raymond James recognized three advisors and their clients for their strength and flexibility at the annual ELEVATE Conference in April 2023. I was honored to be recognized with Claire. You can view the video that features us, along with my family, by clicking on the photo of Bobby below.

Bobby is a happy, courageous kid who is still working hard on his continued recovery. If you are interested in learning more about Bobby’s medical diagnosis and surgery (and his puppy!) read this article from UCSF featuring Bobby.

I am grateful and privileged to work with each of you. Thank you for lifting up my family and know that I am here for you too to support you during the ups and downs of life.
