Alan Knight

CFP®
Branch Manager

“I became a financial advisor to help individuals make better decisions about their money and future.”

My Dad always owned businesses in Slidell. From the time I was 12, I worked for him, starting with the hot, tedious job of cleaning silk screens to produce baseball and football team jerseys for his sporting goods business. When I was older, my jobs became more interesting such as opening and closing the store and going to meetings with banks.

Talk around our kitchen table often centered on business and investments. My father enjoyed managing his own investments and helping his family make smarter decisions. It wasn’t surprising when he sold his businesses and joined an independent financial practice with Raymond James.

After college my wife and I moved to Colorado where I worked for a major Wall Street firm. I was alert to learning as much as I could about financial planning and gained extensive experience in retirement planning.

There, I also saw what I didn’t want to do: to be compelled to sell proprietary products. In contrast, my father, as an independent advisor, provided unbiased advice.

After 6 wonderful years, we returned from Colorado so that our children could experience the love of a close family, just as I did while I was growing up. In 2001 I joined my father in his practice.
