George specializes in serving small business owners and practice professionals. His areas of expertise include tax deferral strategies and qualified retirement plans, to help his clients mitigate the erosive effect of taxes and help them save for their own future.
As a Chartered Retirement Plans Specialist™, he specializes in creating, implementing and maintaining retirement plans for businesses, including IRAs, Simple and SEP plans, 401(k) plans, defined benefit pension plans and non-qualified deferred compensation plans. He has expertise in plan distributions, plan design, implementation, on-going operation, and fiduciary issues.
George is also a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner. CFP® certification is one of the most respected financial planning credentials and the recognized standard of excellence in personal financial planning. He adheres to the CFP Board’s code of ethics for integrity, objectivity, competence, fairness, confidentiality, professionalism and diligence.
As a small business owner, George has worn all three hats: management, financial accounting and marketing. As a former general plant manager of a $50 million+ manufacturing complex with 380 employees, he has unique experience in serving and advising the small business owner.
George finds great fulfillment in his ability to make a positive impact in people’s lives. He believes that a financial advisor plays an essential part in providing the planning, problem solving, investment discipline and solutions people need for realizing their goals.
“Professionally, I am known as a go-to specialist with regards to tax deferral strategies and have a proactive money management style which is conservatively biased. While my expectations are that most active money management and market timing strategies simply underperform in the long run, I do believe that proactive money management can be effective in reducing the volatility in one’s portfolio by effective allocation strategies implemented to attempt to take advantage of current market trends. My strategies incorporate a solid base of traditional indexes to reduce costs with smaller proactive allocations with the goal of outperforming the benchmarks over the long term,” says George.
Before joining Raymond James in June 2017, George held positions at Merrill Lynch, Wells Fargo Investments and Smith Barney. He earned an MBA from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and a bachelor’s degree in finance from Baylor University.
He deliberately chose Raymond James due to the firm’s open architecture of products and services, state-of-the-art planning, award-winning equity research, and money management tools. George believes that, compared to the larger wirehouses, the firm’s smaller size makes it more responsive to the needs of advisors and their clients.
Throughout his career, George has been active in a variety of community, charitable, cultural and religious organizations, including Boy Scouts of America, United Way, American Red Cross, Spencer Theater for the Performing Arts, Campus Crusade for Christ (Las Cruces), and Grace Harvest Community Church (Ruidoso).
George is originally from Waco, Texas, where he lived for 34 years. Today, he lives in Las Cruces, New Mexico, with his wife, Sylvia. They have three daughters, Lindsay, Brianna and Carley; and two sons, Dane and Carlos. In his free time, George enjoys hunting and fishing in the great outdoors of New Mexico.
