Master of Science in Financial Services

    Financial Advisor

Tom was born and raised in the Philadelphia area but has been a Maryland resident since 1981. He earned a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce at the University of Pennsylvania in 1974. Following graduation, he progressed through a variety of positions over a ten year period in Sales, Marketing, Finance, and Operations at large corporations. He entered the investment business in 1984 when he joined PaineWebber in their Columbia, Maryland office, as a Financial Advisor. Over the next six years he built a business by applying the principals of financial planning to individual client needs. In July 1989, Tom opened an independent investment office in Howard County, Maryland and began his long affiliation with Raymond James Financial Services as a Branch Manager. The move to Raymond James has allowed Tom to work independently to help meet client needs with the knowledge he has the support and resources of a listed firm with fifty years of experience supporting independent advisors. The investment environment has seen many changes and challenges over the years and in response Tom earned a Master of Science in Financial Services degree from the Institute of Business and Finance in La Jolla, CA in 2008 in order to provide increased services to clients. He completed classwork in Tax and Estate Planning* as well as Investment Strategies.

Tom joined Long Financial Services in 2012 as a Financial Advisor in Annapolis, MD with a goal of improving overall service levels to clients. Removed from the responsibilities of office management, supervision, administration, and record-keeping, Tom is able to spend more time working directly with clients to assist in their achieving their investment goals. He will be able to collaborate with a team of like-minded investment professionals, have the advantage of a full time experienced administrative staff supporting his efforts, and still have clients maintain their relationship with Raymond James.

When they arrived in Maryland in 1981, Tom and his wife Debbie moved to Howard County where they raised a son and a daughter. Tom was active in the business community, serving on the Boards of the Howard County Chamber of Commerce, the Columbia Rotary Club, the School Superintendent’s Advisors, the Howard County Heart Association, and his local church. He assumed board leadership positions in youth sports associations and thoroughly enjoyed coaching girls’ basketball and boys’ baseball teams. Tom is an avid golfer and was a long-time member of Turf Valley Country Club where he was President of the Men’s Golf Association. Sadly in 2011, Debbie passed away suddenly from cancer after a brief illness. She was an accomplished teacher, a wonderful mother, and a beloved wife for 36 years. She was very much loved and is missed by all who knew her. Tom feels he is twice blessed as he was fortunate to meet another wonderful woman, Kathy who was also a recent widow and found that they shared a lot in common. Their relationship grew and they were married in 2013. Their blended family consists of four grown children, and ten grandchildren and one great grandchild, all of whom are living within an hour of Kathy and Tom’s home in Forest Hill in Harford County, Maryland. Kathy and Tom have continued their own interests, and their new life together is busy with family activities, celebrations, and vacations. Kathy has retired from her nanny position and is a full-time homemaker, Tom is continuing to work in his forty-year financial planning practice they are enjoying their new life together.
