Kathy Moran is an independent financial advisor offering investment advisory services through Raymond James Financial Services Advisors. She is the founder and owner of Kathy Moran Wealth Group, a comprehensive wealth management practice that specializes in managing the financial affairs of successful individuals and families, and institutional clients in Virginia and throughout the United States. Kathy’s practice employs a consultative approach to financial planning and imparts a disciplined process to asset management. She places concerted emphasis on consistently delivering high-quality personal service.

Kathy is among an elite group of financial advisors affiliated with Raymond James, having annually been selected to the firm’s Leaders and Executive Councils since 2006.1 Council honors are reserved only for those financial advisors who demonstrate an extraordinary level of commitment to clients through personal service and professional integrity to the investing public through outstanding guidance and service; and to the financial services profession through exemplary growth. In 2020, Kathy was named to the Forbes Top Women Wealth Advisors List.2

Prior to entering the financial services profession in 1996, Kathy spent more than eight years in the technology sector, holding key management positions in both consulting and sales, predominantly in the Washington, D.C. area. She is widely known for her ability to combine her knowledge of the ever increasingly technological world in which we live with her skill in communicating complex financial issues to clients in simple, understandable terms.

Though a native of Cleveland, Ohio, Kathy has lived in Virginia most of her life. She received her Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from James Madison University (JMU) where she was submitted for consideration as a Rhodes Scholar nominee. While attending Appalachian State University in North Carolina where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree, Kathy was inducted into Who’s Who among Students in American Colleges and Universities. As a leader among her peers, Kathy has spoken at national education conferences for financial advisors, and actively participates in select roundtables comprised of leading financial advisors across the nation that meet throughout the year to address and discuss issues pertaining to the management of successful financial advisory practices.

Kathy believes strongly in giving back to the community in which she lives. She is an avid supporter of the arts, serving on the JMU College of Visual and Performing Arts Executive Advisory Board and partnering with The Forbes Center for the Performing Arts in sponsorship of the annual Masterpiece Season. She also works closely with the Arts Council of the Valley, and sponsors the annual Smith House Galleries Arts Series.

Kathy is a Trustee for Sunnyside Communities, an award-winning multi-location continuing care retirement community. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Rockingham Memorial Hospital (RMH) Foundation Advisory Board which supports and enhances the hospital as a community-based healthcare system. Kathy believes a healthier community is achieved through care of mind, body, and spirit. When funding was eliminated to finish the new hospital’s all-faith chapel in the aftermath of the 2008 recession, Kathy funded its completion. Kathy has proudly served on numerous other boards and committees over her many professional years.

A resident of the Lake Pointe community of Harrisonburg, Kathy enjoys spending leisure time at home cooking and entertaining. When her schedule permits, she relishes traveling throughout the United States and internationally. Kathy treasures relationships and values quality time spent with family and friends.
