June 2021
I didn’t sleep well last night. I mean, I fell asleep fine, but at some point rather than sleeping, my mind started thinking overtime about all the things I needed to do, and how I felt like I had so little time to do them and do them well. I’m a list person, and so if I had just gotten up and made myself a list of all the things I was thinking of, I probably would have fallen back asleep just fine. Incidentally, that is exactly what I did as soon as I got up and then went for a very good run to alleviate the stress of a sleepless night.
I like sleep, and so when I experience a restless night, I do not like it! It made me think, however, about what keeps you up at night. As women, we often have different concerns or priorities when it comes to our money and investments and sometimes those things keep us up. So many women that I speak to worry that they will outlive their money. Their concern is valid. Women live longer than men do. We often outlive our partners as a result and if that person required extensive care at the end of life, what will be left for us? On the other hand, maybe you are a single woman, and you worry about needing care at the end of your life.
Did I hit a cord with you? Does this sound like something you’ve thought? I think about it too. I think about it for myself and I think about it for you. While you hired Cliff and me to manage your investments, you also hired us to help you plan for whatever stage of life you are experiencing. Part of that planning includes addressing this concern. Now, as you’ve heard me say before, everyone’s situation is different, there is not a one-size fits all answer, but instead we look closely at your situation and plan accordingly. So, problem solved, right? Well, you might still worry or have this on your mind, but rest assured we are thinking of it too.
Now what else keeps you up at night? Hopefully nothing, but if there is one thing I’ve learned over the last year, is that we are all in this together. You may have heard this saying over the last year: “We are not all in the same boat, but we are in the same storm, some have yachts, some have canoes and some are drowning. Just be kind and help when you can.” It’s been a rough year but the light is at the end of the tunnel. You are not out there alone, so how can I help?
