Joseph Klauzar, MBA, MRED, AAMS®, AIF®, CEPA®, CIMA® First Vice President, Investments

Joseph provides fully integrated, comprehensive advanced planning strategies for owners of private businesses and their families that seek to optimize the value of their business and then, at the appropriate time, capture or transition that value in the most efficient way possible.

He has worked as a global investment manager for more than 30 years and has a broadly diversified business and professional background. His extensive academic, international, political and professional experiences give him a unique perspective about investing.

Joseph has earned several professional designations that qualify him in a variety of disciplines that assures a positive outcome in transitioning businesses. Joseph is a Certified Ext Planning Advisor® (CEPA™) and has advanced training in helping private owners of business to plan and execute an exit strategy. As an Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) he is recognized as a professional responsible for advising or managing investible assets and maintaining the standards of fiduciary duty1. Joseph also holds the Accredited Asset Management Specialist® (AAMS®),2 a designation awarded upon successful completion of specialized training in helping clients plan for and accomplish their financial goals. Finally Joseph holds the Certified Investment Management Analyst® (CIMA™) designation and has the advanced investment management knowledge required to fully serve affluent clients, and understands the financial complexities and risks that come with being in the highest tax bracket.

He has held many high-level executive positions in the financial industry prior to joining Raymond James in 2018 – including significant international experience. Joseph worked for Morgan Stanley for seven years, where he held the positions of vice president, portfolio manager, family wealth advisor and financial advisor.

He served as president and representative director for Nationwide Global Japan, a subsidiary of Nationwide Mutual Life Insurance Company. He also served as managing director and senior vice president in the Capital Management Group at First Union Bank, where he launched and managed the Evergreen Worldwide Funds offshore (Japan) fund distribution. Domestically, he was vice president of institutional sales at INVESCO.

Joseph’s personal and professional career has taken him to five continents. He reads, writes and speaks Mandarin Chinese, Japanese and basic German and Spanish. His extensive international experiences give him a deep understanding of the workings of the major world economies, and insights into how international forces affect the financial markets, necessary to investing in the increasingly complex global economy.

Joseph also has extensive public service experience. He served as a liaison for the White House, the U.S. State Department, and the Japanese delegation at the 1990 Economic Summit of Industrialized Nations. In addition, he worked for the White House in Presidential Advance from 1989 to 1991. Joseph’s broad-based political experience has given him a deep understanding of politics and how it affects the financial markets.

He also has extensive academic experience. He has served on the faculty of the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), where he taught classes on managerial finance, fundamentals of investments, financial risk management, behavioral finance and international investing.

He has also served on the faculty of California State University Long Beach, where he taught a curriculum that includes business finance, investment principles, portfolio analysis, and equity securities and valuation.

Joseph earned his MBA in finance from Northwestern University’s J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, and a Master of Real Estate Development (MRED) degree from the University of Southern California, Sol Price School of Public Policy. He earned his bachelor’s degree with dual majors in Asian studies (Mandarin Chinese) and East Asian Languages (Japanese) from the University of California at Berkeley. Joseph is pursuing a Master of Arts degree in International relations at Harvard University.

He completed certificate programs at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, in the Alternative Investments and in Investment Analysis.

He also completed the Mandarin Chinese Language Program at National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei, Taiwan, Republic of China.

In addition to his own academic credentials, Joseph is committed to his own continuing education on topics from advanced financial modeling to professional business development.

Joseph is a member of the Investments and Wealth Institute™ and the Portfolio Managers Institute. He holds Series 3, 7, 63 and 65 securities licenses, and California life, health-disability and variable annuity insurance license.

Joseph is truly a citizen of the world. He has lived in Asia for 15 years and Europe for five years, and has been to nearly 70 countries. Today, he lives in Southern California. In his free time, he enjoys movies, music, cycling, swimming, yoga and karate.

Joseph holds a black belt in traditional Japanese Shotokan Karate and is working toward his black belt in Japanese Jiu-jitsu.
